Pensions & Retirement

Pensions, annuities and income drawdown

Planning early and contributing tax-efficiently can reduce your Income Tax bill today and give you more choice when you stop work.

Inheritance Tax change from April 2027. For deaths on or after 6 April 2027, passing on most unused pension funds to beneficiaries may create an Inheritance Tax liability, because unused pension pots will be included in the deceased’s estate.

At-retirement options we advise on

Flexi-access drawdown

Take a flexible income while your pension stays invested.

Phased retirement

Ease into retirement with part-time work and staged withdrawals.

Lump sum & portfolio planning

Structuring your tax-free lump sum (typically 25%) and the taxable remainder.

Capped drawdown reviews

Ongoing management of older capped drawdown arrangements.

Conventional annuities

A guaranteed income for life.

Enhanced, impaired life & smoker annuities

Higher rates where health or smoking history qualifies.

Investment-linked annuities

Income linked to the performance of underlying funds.

The value of pensions can fall as well as rise. Your retirement income depends on interest and annuity rates when you take your benefits. Levels, bases of and reliefs from taxation depend on your circumstances and may change. The FCA does not regulate tax planning, estate planning or trust advice.

Long-term needs

Retirement, private school fees or passing wealth to your children.

  • Personal pensions
  • ISAs
  • Junior ISAs
  • Bonds
  • Shares

Spreading your money across asset classes

  • Shares (equities): higher growth potential with higher volatility.
  • Fixed interest (bonds and gilts): regular income with lower relative risk.
  • Property: commercial or residential property funds.
  • Cash: capital protection and immediate access.

ESG investing. For clients who want their money to reflect their values, we can build portfolios that take environmental, social and governance factors into account.

The value of investments and the income from them can fall as well as rise. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Tax treatment may change.

Wealth Management

Plan, invest, protect

Making sure you have everything you need for retirement and protecting your wealth for the generations after you.

Rather than managing a portfolio in isolation, we bring together investment advice, tax planning, pensions and estate planning in one plan to safeguard, grow and preserve your wealth.

  • In-depth profiling of your goals, risk appetite, preferences and long-term need for access to money
  • A balanced view of returns against risk across your pension benefits and other investments
  • Tax efficiency and passing wealth on between generations

The value of investments and the income from them can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you originally invested.

Family Protection

Keep the people you love financially secure

Term assurance, critical illness and income protection insurance can keep your family financially secure should the unthinkable happen.

Term assurance

Pays a sum assured if you die within the policy term: level, decreasing (often with a repayment mortgage) or increasing with inflation.

Family income benefit

A regular tax-free income instead of one lump sum, until the term ends, for example when your youngest turns 18 or 21.

Whole of life assurance

Pays out whenever you die, as long as premiums are kept up. Some include an investment element.

Critical illness cover

A tax-free lump sum or income on diagnosis of specified serious illnesses. We look beyond price at definitions and exclusions.

Income protection

A tax-free monthly income if illness or injury stops you working, after an agreed waiting period.

Protection policies usually have no cash-in value and will lapse if you stop paying premiums. Critical illness cover varies significantly between insurers.

Business financial planning

Making the best use of your company’s financial resources for its short and long-range objectives, and making sure the business is well protected.

Key person, shareholder and partnership protection if a key person dies or cannot work.

Employee benefits

Group pensions, auto-enrolment, death in service, group income protection, group critical illness and private medical insurance.

Directors’ pensions

A tax-efficient way to extract profit. Employer contributions typically qualify for Corporation Tax relief and grow largely free of tax.

Corporate investment

Investing company reserves to protect assets and build for the long term.

The FCA does not regulate tax planning or auto-enrolment workplace pensions. Workplace pensions are regulated by The Pensions Regulator.

Tax & Estate Planning

Plan in the most tax-efficient way

After working hard to build your estate, it is important to have a solid plan in place. We help you reduce tax liabilities across every part of your life, within the UK tax year (6 April to 5 April).

  • Income Tax planning: managing taxable income around thresholds and bands.
  • Capital Gains Tax: using annual exemptions and timing disposals.
  • Inheritance Tax: lifetime gifting, trusts and preserving your legacy.
  • Trusts and estates: setting up family trusts to ringfence assets.

Tax planning, estate planning and trusts are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
